Changing of sugarcane based cropping system to cereal based cropping system for a year i.e. growing of rice and wheat or some other suitable crops in cane fields where red rot incidence is there, can effectively control the disease. Above all, a strict field vigilance is absolutely essential to detect the disease in the early stages of its appearance right from April onwards and measures taken in time to control this dreaded disease.
Wilt disease is also responsible for running out of certain susceptible varieties to this disease. Varietal resistance is the only way to control the disease . However it has been observed that the incidence of this disease is correlated to damage by insects, root borer and stalk borer. Control of these two insects helps in reducing damage by this disease in susceptible varieties.
